Margaret Atwood, the author of many critically acclaimed novels such as The Handmaid’s Tale, Blind Assassin, and Oryx and Crake, stepped into the world of comics. Atwood teamed up with artist Johnnie Christmas and colorist Tamra Bonvillain to create a three volume series titled, Angel Catbird.
The series follows the adventures of Angel Catbird, a human, bird, and cat hybrid superhero. The first volume details the character’s origin story, which Atwood describes as a “collision between our hero, a cat, an owl, a car and a vial full of gene splicer.” The ensuring story is described as a humorous, action-driven, pulp-inspired superhero adventure full of cat puns.
Atwood’s deft ability to craft characters and develop story lines, coupled with Christmas’ beautifully detailed drawing style are sure to result in an enjoyable read. The first volume of the series will hit shelves on September 6th.
