About a decade ago I stumbled upon Faith Hunter’s novel Blood Ring shoved behind some books on a shelf at Philadelphia’s Main Library. I’d never heard of the author but I thought I would take a chance on the book. The back cover description of a post-apocalyptic world dealing with Angels, demons and their progeny intrigued me. I spent the whole ride home engrossed in the book. The book plunges the reader into the deep end and there was not a whole lot of backstory to explain how everything worked, which normally annoys me a bit, but I couldn’t stop reading. I finished it in a marathon reading season featuring Chinese take-out and Ben & Jerry’s, then went on a mission to three local book stores until I could find the second book, Seraphs, and order the final book, Host.
In the ensuing years, I have come to enjoy her Skinwalker series, and I’m anxiously awaiting my copy of her Soulwood series to arrive. While I really enjoy her other works I’ve always held out hope that she’d return to the world she created in the Rogue Mage series. So I was really excited to see a blog post on Hunter’s site that Bella Rosa Books, a small independent publisher will be publishing two e-book anthologies and a trade paperback omnibus set in the Rogue Mage world. According to Hunter’s site the following authors have been contracted to contribute short stores for the anthologies: Diana Pharaoh Francis, Lucienne Diver, Tamsin L. Silver, Ken Schrader, Lou J. Berger, Christina Stiles, Melissa McArthur, Jean Rabe, Misty Massey, and Faith Hunter. The two eBooks are titled Trials and Tribulations, and the trade paperback will be titled Triumphant.
No word on an official publish date, but I’ve got to say that my inner book geek is doing a chibi dance in anticipation.
